GUY HARRINGTON MEETS DEATH IN CAR ACCIDENT. Car Strikes Steamshovel Parked Alongside Highway Near Granby Thursday and He Dies Sunday From Injuries--Companion Killed Instantly.
Guy HARRINGTON, prominent rancher of the Sheephorn community, died in a Denver hospital Sunday from injuries received in an automobile accident on the state highway Thursday night when he and Mrs. Minnie SHERWOOD of Denver were driving from Denver to the ranch. Mrs. SHERWOOD was instantly killed in the accident.
Mr. HARRINGTON has owned and operated a ranch in the Sheephorn community in this county for a number of years, and also maintained a home in Denver for his mother. He was bringing Mrs. Sherwood to the ranch to keep house for he and his sixteen-year-old son, Herbert.
The accident was caused by a steamshovel which was parked beside the road near Granby. There was a red lantern hung from the shovel, tho it is claimed, as a warning. It is thought that HARRINGTON did not notice the light as his car crashed full headon into the shovel, with such force that the front end of the car was mashed into the front seat. HARRINGTON and his companion being pinned to tightly between the debris that rescuers had to use iron bars to pry them loose.
His mother, Mrs. Lizzie HARRINGTON who was ill at the time of the accident, died at her home Saturday, without learning of her son's condition. Mr. HARRINGTON was not informed of his mother's death before he died.
Guy F. HARRINGTON was born in Fort Collins, Colo., March 16, 1893. He went to Denver in 1920, and for several years was engaged in bridge and road contracting. For the last seven years he had operated a ranch at Sheephorn.
He is survived by his sisters, Mrs. ELAND and Mrs. TAYLOR, and by a son, Herbert H. HARRINGTON, 16.
A double funeral was held in Denver at the Olinger mortuary, Wednesday. Burial will be in Greeley.
