Hugh Emmett RILEY, Sr., 66, died in Denver July 23, 1966. He had been ill a short time.
The son of Timothy and Nellie Riley, he was born March 5, 1900 in Oro City, Colo. and attended school in Leadville.
Mr. RILEY was a longtime employee of Public Service of Colorado, beginning work for the company in October 1817, and retired January 1, 1965.
He was local representative for Public Service at Red Cliff, Gilman and Minturn. Upon his retirement, he and Mrs. Riley, to whom he was married April 8, 1928, moved to Denver.
He was a life-long Catholic, and a member of BPOE Lodge No. 236. While he lived in Red Cliff he served on the Town Council and held the office of Town Treasurer.
The Rosary was July 26 at Moynahan-O'Malia Chapel in Leadville and the funeral service Wednesday, July 27 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville and burial was in the Elks Rest Cemetery in the same city. Pallbearers were Fran McDONALD, Emil ERLANDSON, Vincent RIEPENHOFF, J. W. MACKEY, Ralph HENDERSON and Bob WARREN. Honorary pallbearers were Jim HIGDAY, Fred TINDALE, Ken LESSARD, Harry GARTSIDE, Sid OLDS, Jack EUSSEN, Fred KERN, and Elmer McDONALD.
Mr. RILEY is survived by his wife, Margaret of 2000 West 92d Ave., Denver; two sons: Hugh Emmett, Jr., Hanover, N. Mex. and Timothy John RILEY, 724 Douglas Drive, Denver; his mother, Nellie RILEY and five grandchildren.

HUGH E. RILEY
Solemn High Mass for the late Hugh Emmett RILEY, Sr., of 2000 West 92nd avenue, Dener, was offered Wednesday, July 27 in the Church of Annunciation. Rev. Regis McGUIRE was the celebrant; Father STONE of Minturn was the deacon and Father Maurice McINERNEY was the sub-deacon.
Active pallbearers were Fran McDONALD, Emil ERLANDSON, Vincent REIPENHOFF, J. W. MACKEY, Ralph HENDERSON and Bob WARREN.
Honorary pallbearers were James HIGDAY, Fred TINDALE, Sidney OLDS, Jack EUSSEN, Fred KERN and Elmer McDONALD.
Burial was in the Elks rest of Evergreen cemetery with members of the B. P. O. E. No. 236 conducting graveside services.
Rev. Regis McGUIRE said the rosary at the Moynahan-O'Malia chapel Tuesday evening.
Mr. RILEY died July 23 at St. Luke's hospital, Denver, after a short illness. He was 66.
He was born of one of Leadville's pioneer families, Timothy RILEY and Nellie McHatton RILEY, March 5, 1900 at oro City. He attended Leadville schools and on October 17, 1917 began his career with Public Service Company of Colorado. He was local service representative for the company in Red Cliff, Gilman and Minturn. He was living in Minturn when he retired January 1, 1965 and moved to Denver.
Mr. RILEY served as town treasurer of Red Cliff and town councilman there. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 236 of Leadville and a lifetime Roman Catholic.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, of Denver, whom he married April 8, 1928 in the Church of Annunciation in Leadville; two sons, Hugh Emmett RILEY, Jr., of Hanover, New Mexico, and Timothy John RILEY of 724 Douglas Drive, Denver. His ... grandchildren and a cousin, Helen M. ROE of Worland, Wyo. His father, Timothy and a sister, Mrs. Harriett VONDEREMBS preceded him in death.
The high esteem with which he was held, both in Eagle county and Lake county was evidenced by the large group of friends from Eagle county and Leadville who attended the rosary and funeral services.

RED CLIFF.
Our community was saddened Saturday by the death of Hugh RILEY, who before his retirement had charge of the Public Service office here. Hugh was raised in Leadville and spent his childhood there. When he came to Red Cliff he was married to Margaret CROUGH and two sons--Hugh, Jr. and Timothy, were born to them. Hugh was a man who helped the community in any way he could and his visits back here will be missed. After his retirement he moved to Denver where he died in St. Luke's Hospital July 23. He will be buried in the Elks plot at Leadville Wednesday morning and is survived by his mother; his wife; two sons and several grandchildren.
