James M. “Jim” Pavlisick, 81, Paonia, died
June 21, 2015, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Hill
Cemetery in Paonia.
He is survived by two sons, Andy of Hotchkiss
and Bill of Lebanon, Oregon; two daughters, Deborah
Varner of Craig and Pamela Gillenwater of
Paonia; two sisters, Norma Wilcox of Clifton and
Claudine Smith of Fruita; 11 grandchildren; and
16 great-grandchildren.

Longtime North Fork resident
Jim Pavlisick died at his
home in Paonia on Sunday,
June 21, 2105. He was 81
years old.
James Martin Pavlisick was
born July 2, 1933, to Joseph
and Jewell (Sanders) Pavlisick
in Bowie, CO. He grew up in
the North Fork Valley and graduated from Paonia High School
in1952.
Jim married the love of his life, Lois P. Story, on December 26,
1953, in Paonia, CO. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together
before her death in 2005.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954, and was stationed
at Fort Sill, OK. He would hitch-hike back to Delta when he had
leave. Jim and Lois lived at Fort Sill and their first of five children,
Andy, was born on the base.
He had worked as a coal miner and a rancher most of his life
and as a cook while in the Army.
Jim loved his horses, cows, and the mountains. He spent several
winters tending cattle on the Muddy for Andy Rebeck when
he was a teenager. He and Lois spent some time in a cabin on
the Mick and Rosie Bear Ranch.
He is survived by his sons, Andy (Shirley) Pavlisick of
Hotchkiss, CO; Bill (Arlene) Pavlisick of Lebanon, OR; daughters,
Deborah (Phil) Varner of Craig, CO; Pamela (Larry)
Gillenwater of Paonia, CO; sisters, Norma (Richard) Wilcox of
Clifton, CO; Claudine (Jim) Smith of Fruita, CO. He is further
survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations, in Jim’s memory, may be sent to North
Fork Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 127, Hotchkiss, CO
81419.
A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, June 28,
2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, CO.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral
Service and Crematory.
