Bonnie Iris
(Walter) Bunte
November 26, 1928 - September 15, 2015
Bonnie Iris Walter was born
to Harley and Lucile (Gier)
Walter, on November 26,
1928, in Wray, Colorado. She
welcomed four younger
brothers, Bud, Berwin, Carl,
and Loren Walter. They were
raised on a farm south of
Eckley, Colorado.
Bonnie was an exceptional student and graduated from Eckley.
At the end of the school year, Bonnie married Edwin
Behrendsen at the Eckley Presbyterian Church, on May 29,
1948.
Ed and Bonnie were blessed with three children, Dianna Lynn,
Debra Lou and Steven Craig Behrendsen. In the early 1960’s,
they moved their family to the Harley Walter place, south of
Eckley. They ran a grade B dairy, raised stock cattle, chickens,
and hogs. Sadly, Bonnie and Ed divorced in 1974.
Bonnie moved to Grand Junction in 1974, and attended Mesa
College. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing, in
1976, and began a 20 year nursing career, in the Grand Valley,
working at Community Hospital and in Hospice. When she
retired from nursing, she studied Massage Therapy and
Reflexology with Marilyn Vaselack, became certified, and
worked out of her home, until a few months prior to her death.
Bonnie was a devoted member of The First Presbyterian
Church and served as a Stephen minister, for many years, as
well as being active in the Koinonia Church group.
Bonnie passed away on September 15, 2015, at The Courtyard,
in Fruita, where she received wonderful Hospice care. She was
86.
Memorial services were held September 19, at the First
Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home.
