Stewart Morris Soma

Stewart M. Soma, 87, passed away on October 17, 2015, in Roy, Utah, after a long illness.
He was born in Fairbault County, Minnesota on June 21, 1928, to Tosten "Tom" and Olga (Oswald) Soma. He was the second of three children. He grew up helping his parents on the farm in Keister, Minnesota. In 1950, he married Ardeen Mikkelson in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Of this
union were three children. In 1952, he joined the Army and
spent his active duty service in Germany until 1954. He
remained in the reserves until 1960. Once back in Keister he
leased a service station and eventually built and opened a
Phillips 66 full service station. In the early 60’s he relocated to
Colorado, first Denver then he made Grand Junction his family
home. He spent many years in the service station business with Phillips 66.
After his retirement he worked for Kirby Company of Grand
Junction and Dirt Sucker Vacuum. He loved being on his boat
and camping and also liked to travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years,
Ardeen; his brother, Maynerd and his sister, Thelma. He is
survived by his wife, Sandra of Syracuse, Utah; son, Gregory
Soma; daughter, Cynthia (Terry) Lafferty; son, Grant Soma;
step- son, Ethan (Chanel) Pacheco; grandson, Christopher
Martin, and great-grandson, Keith Martin, all of Grand Junction.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family
as well as many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October
24, 2015, at Martin Mortuary with burial to follow at Memorial
Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 - 8:00 p.m.,
Friday, October 23, 2015 at the mortuary.
