CHARLES HEMBERGER.
Charles (Heimie) HEMBERGER, 85, died in a Palisade Nursing Home July 18.
Mr. HEMBERGER had resided in Gypsum for a great number of years, having lived in Red Cliff prior to moving to Gypsum.
Born at Golden, Colo. Nov. 25, 1882, he attended the Colorado School of Mines and Colorado University in Boulder, graduating with a degree in chemistry. He was interested in mining and farming and with his partner, George Spangler, had a small farm near Gypsum.
His later life's interest was centered in the once booming mining town of Fulford, in the mountains southeast of Eagle, where he held several pieces of property, and helped to re-develop that little town into a summer home area.
Mr. HEMBERGER was a veteran of World War I and was active in the founding of American Legion Post 150 at Gypsum. He was also an active participant in Republican circles in the county, and formerly was a member of the State House of Representatives.
One of Heimie's time-consuming hobbies was sports, and when young was an outstanding football and baseball player. He later transferred these interests to coaching.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the American Legion Hall in Gypsum, which he had been instrumental in building.
Fred COLLETT, Chaplain of Legion Post 150, conducted the service and burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Gypsum.
Pallbearers were Mac MACDONELL, Arnold HIRZ, Gene SLAUGHTER, Jr., Evan MAYNE, Cecil COLE and Judge Wm. H. LUBY.
