Obituaries

Eagle Valley Enterprise - February 26, 1921

Sarah Jane McCLOCHLIN was born in Kingston, Canada, June 20, 1834, died at the home of her daughter in Rifle, Colo., August 20, 1921, at 11:00 a.m., having reached the ripe old age of 87 years and two months.
She was united in marriage Dec. 22,1856, to E.J. FULFORD. Nine children were born to them, five of whom survive, Marshall of California,Frank of Idaho and Albert of Eagle; Mrs. Adelaide MORGAN of Fulford, and Mrs. Hattie PETERSON of Rifle. Besides these, twelve grand-children and six great-grand-children survive.
Her husband was a minister of the gospel at the time of their marriage. She took up the Cross of Christ with her husband, sharing hardships of frontier life through many useful years of missionary labors, part of the time among the Indians. This beloved couple may be classed among the early trail blazers of the county, opening the way to Christian civilization. They will be especially well remembered by the early pioneers of the camp still bearing their name, when they conducted the road house at the forks of the two Brush creeks during the exciting days of the Fulford stampede. The husband passed to the reward of the faithful January 16, 1906.
They bequeath to us a noble heritage of pioneer Christian faith upon which we must build a durable civilization.
Grandmother Fulford was a member of the Methodist church in Eagle until her death. Brief funeral services were held at the home of her son Albert, Monday, after which the remains were borne to their last resting place beside the grave of her husband in the Eagle cemetery, Rev. L. G. HONNOLD officiating.
