LOUIS FENNO DIED FEB. 17.
Louis Alton FENNO, resident of Eagle County for over half a century, died Feb. 17 at the age of 85 years.
Mr. FENNO was born in Davenport, Iowa, Jan. 28,1876 to Levi C.and Emma FENNO. The excitement of gold discoveries in Colorado lured the FENNO family to this state in 1883. They traveled by prairie schooner to Leadville that year. Louis and his three brothers and four sisters were reared and educated in boomtown Leadville. While in his young manhood Louis helped his father in the carpentry trade and later engaged in saw milling and mining.
In 1904, he was united in marriage to Edith NILSON. To this union were born three children--Mary, Ida and Louis C. In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. FENNO and their two daughters went to Illinois where they lived until late 1910. Louis C. was born at Colona, Ill. Returning to Colorado, the Fennos took up residence in Squaw Creek in Eagle County. In 1912 Mr. FENNO filed on a homestead on Squaw Creek and that site has been their home since.
Because of the fortitude and pioneering spirit, Mr.and Mrs. FENNO worked their homestead into a successful ranching venture. They reared and educated their children from the fruits of their ranching operations.
Mr.FENNO was an avid fisherman and after retiring from farm work, he spent nearly every summer day casting his trout line into the waters of the Eagle river. He was also a baseball enthusiast and spent many happy hours listening to games broadcast on radio, or watching the games on television. ...Interment was in Sunset View Cemetery at Eagle.
