Stephanie Katherine KOPRINIKAR died Thursday, June 22, at her home in Wolcott. She was 81.
Miss KOPRINIKAR was a lifetime resident of the Eagle Valley, with the exception of 10 years she spent in Glenwood Springs.
She was born Sept. 12, 1907, at Leadville, the daughter of Antonia Turk KOPRINIKAR and Mathew KOPRINIKAR. She was never married.
Her mother and father came to the United States from Austria, and were one of the pioneering families in the Eagle Valley. They purchased a ranch in Wolcott in 1910 and a ranch at Edwards in 1912. They later sold the Edwards Ranch, where Interstate 70 now exits.
Miss KOPRINIKAR lived at the Edwards Ranch location until it was sold in 1977. She was a partner in, and resided at, the Wolcott Ranch for the past 15 years.
Miss KOPRINIKAR lived and worked alongside her family on the ranch throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed cooking and taking care of family, friends and ranch hands. "There was always enough food for several more plates on the table," one friend recalled.
Miss KOPRINIKAR had an enormous capacity for love and a rare youthful zest for life. Young people were especially drawn to her energy for life. Perhaps her greatest mark was the impact she had on her great-great nieces and nephews, who will always remember her love and wisdom.
Survivors include her sister, Anna STRELL of Moab, Utah, previously of Leadville and Salida; two nieces, Lorraine LONG of Pueblo and Betty Jean Taylor BECK of Moab, previously of Minturn; six great nieces and nephews; eight great-great nieces and nephews; and scores of friends whom she considered her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, Mathew KOPRINIKAR; another brother, Daniel KOPRINIKAR, who served as an Eagle County commissioner from 1966 to 1978; and a sister, Edith TAYLOR of Moab, previously of Minturn.
A rosary was held Friday, June 23, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Leadville. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Leadville.
