Evelyn Faye (Allums) Smalley passed away in Converse, Texas, December 5, 2015.
Evelyn was born April 16, 1926, in Dill City, OK to James A. and Artie Mae (Cline) Allums. Evelyn attended school in Dill City and graduated in 1944. She married E.J. Smalley on December 14, 1950, in Oklahoma City, OK. Evelyn became a registered nurse in 1952, after graduating from the Western Oklahoma State Hospital School of Nursing in Clinton, OK. She and E.J. moved to Eakly, OK and farmed peanuts until moving to Palisade, CO in 1959. Evelyn was the director of nurses at Mesa Memorial Hospital in Grand Junction, CO and later retired from St. Mary’s Hospital after St. Mary’s Hospital acquired Mesa Memorial.
After retirement, E.J. and Evelyn became winter Texans living
and fishing in Port Aransas, TX from 1986 to 2004. In 1996,
they moved back to Eakly, OK where they lived until moving to
Converse, TX in 2007 to be closer to their daughter and son.
Preceding Evelyn in death was an infant daughter, her parents
and siblings, and her husband. Evelyn is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Roland Rowe of Converse, TX; and her son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Kelly Smalley of Houston, TX.
Services for Evelyn will be held at Eakly Cemetery on
December 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Eakly
Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 322, Eakly, OK 73033.
