James L. Ervin
March 11, 1934 - November 23, 2015
James Lee Ervin of Battlement Mesa, CO passed away November 23, 2015.
He was born in Kansas City, MO on March 11, 1934. He graduated from Westport High School in 1952, and married Shirley Anita Marcus that same year. He attended University of Missouri at Kansas City, graduating in 1965 with a B.A. in Economics. He obtained his Operating Engineer license in 1955, and worked for Manor Bakery before joining Western Electric in 1958. He worked as an Inspector for the new plant in Lee’s Summit, MO before transferring to Denver in 1970. He held several management positions including Personnel Director and then took early retirement in 1975. He started a new career in the Natural Gas Industry where he and Shirley moved to different locations throughout the Midwest, Washington and California. Jim loved his work as a Natural Gas Inspector/Superintendent.
He and Shirley moved to Grand Junction in 1980, where they
joined the LDS Church. Jim served in many positions at church, his favorite being Stake Missionary leader. As a member of the High Council he spent many hours as an avid genealogist. After moving to Battlement Mesa in 1992, he retired in 2006 and was active in the Battlement Mesa community. He served as president of the Senior Center, a member of the Sheriff’s
Auxiliary and on the board of the Canyon View Homeowners
Association.
He is survived by his wife Shirley to whom he was married for
63 years. They have four children, Michael (Patricia), Patrick
(Melissa), Cynthia, and Joy Baysinger (Dave). He had one
granddaughter, 12 grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was laid to rest at the Parachute Cemetery.
