Tony Worrell, 49, died
Tuesday, November 10, 2015,
unexpectedly.
Tony was born on December
29, 1965, to Roland and Ruth
Worrell in Goldsboro, NC. He
attended Goldsboro High
School where he was known
as “All Worrell”. He was
scouted by I50 colleges out of
high school. He finally chose
the University of North Texas in Denton, TX.
In his career at UNT he scored 1516 points and is ranked
eighth in all time scorers. In 1988 he led UNT to their first
NCAA tournament, becoming the Southland Conference Player
of the Year. In 2000 he was inducted into the UNT Athletic Hall
of Fame.
Being the adventurous man he was, Tony took advantage of his
opportunity to play professional basketball overseas. During his
11 year professional career, he touched lives all over the world
in Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, France and even
Argentina.
Tony moved with his family to Grand Junction, Colorado in
2001. He became highly involved in the community coaching
youth basketball and officiating AAU, city league, middle and
high school games.
Tony’s pride and joy was his daughter, Delaney. He made sure
his life revolved around her. He was very proud of her
accomplishments in music and the young lady that she has
become.
Everyone who came into contact with Tony instantly realized
what a caring person he was. His smile so large would light up
the room. He was a great role model, a mentor to many, and a
constant source of strength to others. He was always there ready
to lend a hand or help strangers and friends alike, no questions
asked.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Lee Worrell;
brothers, Roland Lee Worrell, Jr. and Donald R. Worrell; sister,
Kathyrn M. Oates and her husband, Kenneth Oates, Sr.
He is survived by his love, Wendy Peden; his daughter,
Delaney and her mother, Renee; mother, Ruth M. Worrell;
brother, Leonard E. Worrell; sisters, Chris Ann Worrell and
Teresa W. Smith (Andrew); aunt, Lillie M. Harris (Walter), and
a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends
considered family in his heart.
Memorial services will be at Central High School, Sunday,
November 15, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

Tony Worrell, 49, Grand Junction, died Nov. 10, 2015, at his
home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Central High School main
gym. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Goldsboro, North
Carolina.
Mr. Worrell was a Mesa County criminal justice officer.
He is survived by one daughter, Delaney Rena Worrell of Grand
Junction; his mother, Ruth M. Worrell of Goldsboro; one brother,
Leonard Earl Worrell; and two sisters, Chris Ann Worrell and Teresa
W. Smith.
