Jack ELLIOTT of Rifle died Nov. 22 of natural causes at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Rifle. He was 79.
Mr. ELLIOTT was born Jan. 18,196 in Red Cliff to Joseph Patrick and Elsie (DaLee) ELLIOTT. He spent his childhood in Red Cliff and attended school there. He moved to Rifle in 1959. He married Dolly WEBB on Feb. 22, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Minturn and in the 1960s served as Mayor of Rifle. He also served as a Justice of the Peace in Eagle County and as a local deputy sheriff. He served in the U.S. Army during World War Two, 1941-43.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mining and was a"timberman" who enjoyed the mountains.
He was the great grandson of one of the first Eagle County settlers who founded the town of Red Cliff. He was founder and president of the Battle Mountain Homestake Historic Preservation District.
Survivors include sons Jack Patrick(Gloria) ELLIOTT of Rifle and Charles Michael (Edna) ELLIOTT of Parachute; daughters Esther (Pat) RAYMOND of Salt Lake City, Ut., and Monnie ELLIOTT of Denver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly.
A memorial service was held Nov. 24 at the Rifle Masonic Lodge; an additional memorial service will be held at a later date in Red Cliff.
Arrangements were handled by Sowder Funeral Home in Rifle.
