Pearl Mitchell STAUP was born April 30, 1894 in Silver Creek, Neb. to Elizabeth and Rudolph MITCHELL.
Pearl MITCHELL spent the early years of her life in Nebraska and Iowa. In 1919 she came to Gypsum with her brother, Rudolph, and on Christmas Day, 1919 she married Willis STAUP. To this union were born four children. Two babies, Harvey and Barbara Myrtle preceded her in death.
A natural leader, Pearl STAUP shouldered the numerous activities of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 150, serving in many official capacities and heading many committees during the existence of the unit. She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge of Gypsum, and volunteer worker in nearly every civic project arising in that community.
Mrs. STAUP became ill with cancer over a year ago, but maintained an active part in her community in spite of her suffering.
She died in the Glenwood hospital Aug. 29. Funeral services were held at the American Legion Hall, Gypsum, Sept. 4, with Reverend Daniel CLARK, Methodist minister, officiating. Interment was under joint auspices of the American Legion Auxiliary and Crater Rebekah Lodge. Arrangements by Bowman Mortuary of Eagle.
Pallbearers were Wm. H. LUBY, Jim ROBIDOUX, Dean WALKER, Aden MOSHER, Fred COLLETT, Wm. STANLEY. Mrs. Margaret COLLETT was pianist and Mrs. Alberta HAGGART, vocalist.
Survivors are her husband; son, Lewis of Brighton; daughter, Serena of Los Angeles and five grand children; five sisters: Helen OSBORNE of Nebraska, Reka GALEHOUSEof Ohio; Elizabeth BOLDRA of Neb., Barbara GUTZLER of Gypsum and Mary SHANK of Kans.; five brothers, Frank MITCHELL of Iowa, Rudolph of Ariz., Berlin and Charles of Nebraska and Harold of Oregon. MRs. STAUP was preceded in death by her parents and two children who died in infancy, and a sister, Charlotte.
