DEATH OF MISS FANNIE McCABE. Prominent Lady Passes Away After a Lingering Illness.
The many friends of Miss Fannie E. McCABE, late manager of the Eagle County Times, will be pained to learn of her death which occurred at Red Cliff on Tuesday afternoon, January 17th.
On December 16th, last, Miss McCABE returned very ill from a visit to St. Louis, and never rallied to any extent. She had been confined to her bed ever since, and failed to gain strength, although the best medical skill and care was secured.
The deceased was very popular among her acquaintances, and by the ladies of Red Cliff especially will she be sadly missed. She was an active participant in social affairs, and her ready wit and bright sayings made her the life of all gatherings at which she was present.
Miss McCABE was a prominent member of the Emerson circle and took a lively interest in literary and educational affairs. The great success of the Emerson circle, both as an educational and social institution of the community, is perhaps more due to her efforts than to any other. And while not a member of any local church society, and holding religious views considered by some peculiar, she was also active in Sunday school and church undertakings.
For two or three years, Miss McCABE had the management of the Times, conducted by herself and brother. At the time of her death she was also town clerk of the Town of Red Cliff.
Her brothers, Ed and William, were present at her demise. The funeral will occur this afternoon at the Congregational church, by request conducted by the ladies of the Emerson circle, with interment at Greenwood cemetery.
