Francis William Hewes, Jr. (Better known as “Punch”), 78, entered Heaven’s gate on May 28, 2016 with his children by his side. Punch was born in Denver, CO to parents Francis William Hewes, Sr., and Elizabeth (Gangl) Hewes on April 29, 1938. Punch, formerly of Toponas, CO, was half-owner and operator of Hewes & Hewes Land and Cattle Company where he raised cattle and champion quarter horses. He received his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his Cessna 182. He was an avid welder and inventor of countless things, most notable the portable dipping vat for cattle. He built a successful gravel pit operation alongside his son’s. He was also a gold card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. While athletic in all rodeo events, bulldogging was his sport. Punch was born and raised with all the cowboy tradition. He is not alone. Many of his kind will rest with him. While his accomplishments were many, his proudest achievement was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and a hero to his children. He gained much joy in making people laugh. His humor was infectious. He was a man of true grit. His legacy is grand, his job is finished.
