Funeral services for Mrs. Esther L. KLATT, a pioneer ranch wife and school teacher in the Upper Eagle Valley, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Florence Mortuary Chapel in Florence, Colo.
Mrs. KLATT, a resident of the Bethesda Care Center in Canon City for the past two years, died Thursday, March 17, 1988. She was 88 years old at the time of her death.
Mrs. KLATT, born March 17, 1899 at Edwards, was the youngest of 11 children of William Henry WELLINGTON and Martha Louise WELLINGTON, who moved to the Western Slope from Oklahoma in 1895.
She was married Jan. 4, 1928 to the late Benjamin H. KLATT, who preceded her in death in 1954. Mr. KLATT was a longtime Edwards area rancher and service station operator.
Mrs. KLATT resided on her family's original homestead until moving to Canon City in 1986. She was an active school teacher from 1920 until her retirement in 1967. She taught students in Wolcott, Pando, Avon and Minturn.
She was a member of the Lake Creek Baptist Church at Edwards.
Mrs. KLATT is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Leon HATAWAY, a former pastor at Lake Creek Baptist Church, and the Rev. Fred GRENIER officiated at the March 22 services. Interment was at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.
