Steamboat Today - June 25, 2016

Bruce Edward Muhme 12/10/1953-6/3/2016, age 62, a longtime resident of Routt County passed away peacefully at Mantey Heights after a long battle with diabetes.
Bruce was the second son of August Edward “Ed” Muhme and Alta Jean (Coyner) “Jean” Muhme of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Bruce attended all twelve years of school at Steamboat Springs where he was a State Champion wrestler, and an All-conference and All-state football player for the Sailors. He then went to Mesa State College in Grand Junction on a football scholarship.
Bruce worked as a jobsite foreman for Maher-Bonny Construction for several years. Later he worked for Gordon Klein and Dave Combs setting modular houses. Bruce also worked at Yampa River State Parks. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of B.A.S.S., the NRA and the Routt County Rifle Club where he shot trap. Every year you would hear about an incredible shot Bruce made on big or small game animals or a fish that had stretched his line.
On April 20, 1996, Bruce married Darlene Ebert, the daughter of George and Norma Jean Ebert of Steamboat Springs. They lived in Milner, Colorado, until 2007 when they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. They were married for 20 years. Bruce was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In Grand Junction he was a member of Pear Park Baptist Church. His faith in God was reflected in his daily life.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Ed Muhme, and two brothers, David and Billy. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Muhme, of Grand Junction; his mother Jean Muhme, of Craig, Colorado; his brother Robert “Bob” Muhme and wife Patti; his sister Barbara Gilbert and husband Garold; his sister Janice Muhme; and his brother Roger Muhme, and wife Nancy, all of Hayden, Colorado; and numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.
Bruce was a big, but gentle man, with a big loving heart. He was the best companion and brother anyone could ever hope for. He had a sense of humor that would always catch you off guard. Bruce would set you up, then set back and watch it take place with a grin on his face. Bruce was a very special man and will be missed by everyone that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is building a memorial bench in memory of Bruce that will be placed at Steamboat Lake. If you would like to contribute to this memorial, there is an account set up at Mountain Valley Bank. Checks must be made out to Robert or Roger Muhme and in the memo line put “Bruce Muhme Memorial”.
A potluck celebration of life in honor of Bruce will be Saturday, July 9th, at 12:30, at the Hayden Town Park on 3rd Street. Please join the family in sharing your memories of Bruce.
