Ruby Francis (Dilworth) Stone
August 25, 1920 - February 27, 2016
Ruby Francis (Dilworth) Stone of 3203 North 15th Street, The Fountains, passed away on February 27th at HopeWest Hospice. She was 95 years old.
Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church of Grand Junction, 522 White Avenue, on Saturday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Steve Easterday-McPadden will be officiating and burial will be at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Ruby was a resident of Grand Junction for 70 years. Five of
those years were lived in Bureau of Reclamation housing near
Palisade and the majority of her life was at 181 Reta Drive. For
the last two years, she lived at The Fountains Assisted Living
Facility.
Ruby was born August 25, 1920, in Fletcher, OK. When she
was four years old the family moved to Montrose, CO where
her father, Leslie Dilworth, ran Dilworth Meat Market. She
graduated from Montrose High and then attended Blairs
Business College for two years where she received a secretarial degree. She then married the love of her life, Enos Stone, from Cedaredge, CO in September of 1940. While Enos served in the Navy during WWII, Ruby lived in San Diego, and then Montrose. After the war, Enos went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation and the couple briefly lived in Logan, UT before moving to the Grand Junction area. Enos died in August of 1992.
The couple had three children, Roger (Marina), Beverly (Jesse
Willeke), and Les (Kim). She had six grandsons, David, Calvin,
Austin, Rowan, Ian, and Travis. Her two great-grandchildren
were Simon and Eve. She also had two step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren, of whom Shayna Lindblom was a very special card partner and care giver. She also had a greatgreat- step-grandchild.
Ruby was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist
Church and was active in her ladies’ church circle. She was a 65 year member of Eastern Star Chapter #53 and a former longtime member of the Embroidery Guild. She and her husband were actively involved in the Grand Junction Gem and Mineral Club.
She greatly enjoyed car trips taken with her niece, Nancy, and
pies made by niece, Janet. In her earlier years, she loved to play bridge and later on, the card game, hand and foot. She also enjoyed fishing and rock hunting. Her pride and joy was being a mother and she loved caring for her home and yard.
In her later years, she was lovingly assisted by friends,
neighbors, Columbine Caregivers (Val, Rhonda, Joan, LeAnn,
Lori, and Peggy), The Fountains and lastly, Hospice. She adored her cats, Fluffy and then, Pumpkin.
Survivors include her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, along with nieces, and nephew, Caroline, David, Nancy, Janet, Zelanna, and Nelda, and the cat, Pumpkin. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Ruby was a loving, caring, determined, funny person who will
be sorely missed.
