DEATH CLAIMS TWO PROMINENT FORMER RESIDENTS.
W. S. BROWN DIES SUDDENLY IN BOULDER HOSPITAL.
William S. BROWN, retired forest ranger residing at 3212 9th St., Boulder, died Friday evening after suffering a heart attack at his home. He was taken to a hospital but was dead upon arrival.
Mr. BROWN began his long service with the Forest Service as a ranger and served in both the Holy Cross and White River Forests. in 1936, he was transferred from ranger duty to the construction department and built or assisted in building ranger stations and facilities at Holy Cross, Fairplay, Yampa, Eagle and Steamboat Springs before retiring in 1944.
Mr. Brown moved his family to Boulder from Eagle in 1930 when his sons were ready for the University of Colorado.
He was born June 23, 1882 near Marion, Indiana to John J. and Alice Sears BROWN. Upon graduation from the Majenica, Ind. high school, he attended the Brethren College at Huntington, Ind. then came to Colorado in 1907 locating at Colorado Springs. There he worked as a carpenter on the Antlers and Broadmoor hotels before becoming a ranger.
He is survived by his wife, the former Myrtle FAHL, whom he married at Huntington, Ind., July 7, 1909.
Four sons also survive. They are Robert F., whose home is in Littleton, but who has been at Cape Canaveral, Fla. for the Martin Missile Co.; Richard S., who is in the gas and electric company at Greeley; John S., at Encinitas, Calif.;and Max E. of Denver. There are 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A son, PFC Wayne BROWN, 20, died Feb.24, 1945 while with the 86th Regiment, Tenth Mountain Division in North Italy.
Mr. BROWN's funeral was Tuesday morning in Boulder and burial was in Mountain View Memorial Park beside his son, Wayne, and another son, Wm. S. Jr., who died in infancy.
