Hana Nakayama Van Houten
March 25, 1934 - March 5, 2016
Hana slipped away peacefully at LaVilla Grande from complications resulting from a broken hip.
Hana was born near Shioya, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, to Tokvo and Tomi Nakayama.
Her parents were separated when her father was reported missing during the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, so Hana
lived her very early years with her grandparents. Later, her
father was repatriated and as a youth she lived with him and her step-mother.
She met her husband, Robert Van Houten, at a trade fair in
Japan and they were married January 20, 1971. They had no
children and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Loralee Kerr; stepgrandson, Chris (Marilyn) Kerr, and special friends, Carol,
Grace, Sachi, Sumi, and Midori.
Cremation will be through Martin Mortuary, followed by
inurnment at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery, beside her husband.
At Hana’s request, no services will be held.
Friends are encouraged to celebrate Hana’s life in the traditions of their own preferences and beliefts. Any memorial donation should go to HopeWest Hospice.
