Shaquille “Shaq” Elmes Torrella 1993-2016
One of the most loving individuals from Steamboat Springs, Colorado died unexpectedly on August 16, 2016 at the age of 23. Born on July 28, 1993, Shaq had a passion for the snow and began skiing at the age of three. He parlayed his talents into alpine, moguls, Nordic ski jumping, and freeride and earned twice the Mary C. Magill Memorial Ski Mieister Award. He also spent hours with his father as an apprentice in stained glass window making. He recently received an Associate’s degree with an emphasis in Sustainable Studies, and most recently discovered new talents in graphic arts and photography.
Shaq is survived by the love of his mother, Peta Elmes, father Jorge Torrella and step sister Rebecca Blakeney, grandparents Antonio and Sara Torruella and Mary Elmes, and cousin Cliff Field.
A friends and family memorial celebration of Shaq’s life will be held at the home of Jorge Torrella located at 1039 Pine Street, Steamboat Springs, CO on Saturday, September 3rd from 3 pm – 6pm. At 4pm speakers and guests may share stories in celebration of Shaq’s life.
