Katherine Theresa Peterson passed away peacefully on Aug. 24 in Grand Junction. She was born in Chicago to George and Nora Wentzell. When she was 10 years old her parents moved to Denver to raise their family. Kay, as many knew her, met her husband of 40 years, Hubert Peterson in Eagle while working together for Eagle County. Following an early retirement, Kay and Hubert were able to travel all over the world, something they both loved to do. Kay and Hubert called Eagle County home during the Colorado summer and Yuma, Arizona home in the winter. She had a love for arts and crafts and could be found at the local craft fairs selling items she had either handpicked with her great sense of style or items she had hand made. She was a proud member of the Potpourri Artists group in Yuma. She also looked forward too and enjoyed volunteering her time every year at the annual Eagle Valley Community Fund Rummage Sale. She leaves behind her husband Hubert and children, David Peterson, Gilmer, TX; Shawnna Hopkins, Silt; and Kevin (D’Ann) Hopkins, Grand Junction. She was a proud grandmother to Julie, Amanda, Luke, Jason, Dirk, Ashlie and Alyssa and a great grandmother to 14 great grandchildren. She also is survived by her sister, Rosemarie (Robert) Porter, Cypress, TX; brother David Wentzell, Salt Lake City, UT; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, George Wentzell, Jr., sisters-in-law Velma Collins and Diana Wentzell, brother-in-law, Bob Collins, her parents, and beloved granddaughter Amber Hopkins. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. At her request a service will not be held. Memorials can be made in her name to Hope West, Grand Junction.
