She Was a Pioneer
Mrs. J.M. Ellis, wife of John Miller (Jack) Ellis, died at her home in Steamboat Springs Tuesday morning at 1 o'clock after an illness of more than a year. An ulcerated condition of the liver was the cause of death. Every care had been given the patient and last winter was spent in Denver under the care of specialists.
Ivy May Keller was a pioneer of Routt County, coming here in girlhood with her pioneer father, William A. Keller, in the fall of 1883, this being the first family to settle permanently on the Elk River. She was born in Petroleum Center, Pa., May 1, 1876.. The mother died there and soon after Mr. Keller brought his family to Routt County. It consisted of Dora, now Mrs. W. A. McKinlay, Miss Maud Keller and Samuel A. (AD) Keller in addition to the deceased, all of them still living here.
On December 26, 1899, Ivy May Keller was united in marriage to J.M. Ellis. Of this marriage there are three fine daughters who are left with the father to mourn the passing of a true wife and mother. They are Margaret, 17; Katherine, 13, and Jacquelin, 11.
The funeral services will by held tomorrow (Thursday) at 1:30 o'clock from the Methodist church with Rev. M. T. Habgood in charge. Internment will be at Clark by the side of her father, who died in January 1897.
