Carol Ann (Pratt) Broughton
died on April 18, 2016 at
Horizons Care Center in
Eckert, CO. She was 81 years
old.
She was born on April 26,
1934, to Philip and Lillian
(Southwell) Pratt in Delta,
CO. During her childhood she
lived all over Western
Colorado, graduating in 1952
from Montrose High School where she played drums and was a
Worthy Advisor in the Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
She attended Colorado State University while it was still called
Colorado A&M, continued to play drums, joined ROTC, Tri
Delta Sorority and the Spur Honor Society. In 1954 she married
her high school sweetheart, Harold Broughton. They would be
together for 59 years before his death in 2014. She graduated
with a degree in Physical Education and English in 1956. She
followed Harold to Quantico and Camp Pendleton where he
became a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and she
taught PE, English and Social Studies for two years.
After a brief move to Washington, they would return to
Colorado where they established a lifelong career in
horticulture, continued to grow their family and became highly
active members of the community.
Carol Ann was a member of the Knife and Fork Club, Chapter
GT P.E.O., Epsilon Zeta Sorority, Women for Western
Colorado Fruit, Community Concerts and WCHS among others.
She supported the Girl Scouts and the Delta Pow Wow. She also
loved going to all four days of Country Jam, CSU Ag Days,
playing piano, participating in church choirs, bell choir,
photography, Elvis and reading. Above all, she was deeply
loving and committed to her family; especially her
granddaughters.
She is survived by her three daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Holton,
Karen (Steve) Tice, and Susan (Efren) Luna; brothers-in-law,
Bobby (Esther) Broughton and Melvin (Gale) Broughton; four
granddaughters, Demi Luna, Soraya Luna, Nicole Holton, and
Desirea (Gerry Scott) Holton and two great-grandchildren,
Anais and Toby Scott.
A funeral service honoring her life will be held at Delta United
Methodist Church at 5th and Meeker at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday,
the 30th of April with graveside service following at Cedaredge
Cemetery on SE Independence and 2nd Street.
