John "Jack" Clifford Sours, Sr.
February 9, 1930 - March 26, 2016
John "Jack" Clifford Sours, Sr., passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the age of 86, in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Jack was born February 9, 1930, the son of Myron C. Sours and Kathryne (Nolen) Sours, at Rifle, Colorado. He attended Fairview School House and graduated from Rifle High School. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Navy, serving for four years and traveling to many countries and areas of the
world. Jack returned to Rifle to operate a feed store with his
father and brother for 19 years. Jack was also a real estate agent for 27 years. He proudly served on the Rifle Fire Department for 25 years; and the boards of the Rifle airport and the Rifle Creek golf course for a number of years.
On June 20, 1954, Jack married Dorothy Lee Paine. Jack and
Dorothy made their home in Rifle and had three children.
Dorothy preceded him in death on January 28, 2001.
He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing,
horseback riding, golfing and flying as well as simply taking a
drive through the mountains he loved. Jack took tremendous
pride in the fact that he was born and raised in Rifle.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy;
and two sisters, Gloria Jewell and Kay Ukele.
Survivors include his brother Charles (Linda) Sours, of Grand
Junction; his children, Jack (Tracy) Sours of Rifle; Chris (Jody)
Sours of Grand Junction; Cathy (Wes) Fogale of Fergus Falls,
MN; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many
more friends and family.
The family will hold a remembrance service to celebrate the
lives of Jack and Dorothy Sours at a later date in Rifle.
