Roger G. Parks
November 3, 1943 - March 26, 2016
Roger G. Parks was born at home on November 3, 1943, in Davidson County, North Carolina. Roger went Home, Into The Light of our Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016, where he met his family, father, Culbert Parks; mother, Lola Belle Parks, and brother, Donald Parks, all from the High Point, North Carolina area.
He chose a lifelong career of service as a firefighter, starting in
1964, for the City of High Point where he engineered at Station
8. In 1979, Roger followed a lifelong dream of relocating to the
great state of Colorado for his love of adventure, hunting,
fishing and running an outfitters business. At this time, he
transferred to the Grand Junction Fire Department as an
engineer, where in 1997 a heart attack forced his retirement of
public service of over 32 years.
He reveled in much deserved retirement, by following another
dream and buying a beautiful property near Hotchkiss,
Colorado. He worked with the Forest Service and local entities
tirelessly to utilize his property as an exemplary teaching tool
for fire mitigation methods and to provide food resource for his
beloved wildlife. Since childhood, Roger was an avid
outdoorsman and lived to pass on his love of nature and
adventure to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and beyond.
Roger will be leaving behind three children, eight
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his extended North Carolina family.
The family wishes to extend our warmest gratitude for all the
friendship, love and support towards our father. He had many
wonderful neighbors and friends. We will all miss his special
brand of humor, tall tales and wisdom.
His last wishes were for his ashes to be taken home to North
Carolina where a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to honor and celebrate Roger’s
extraordinary life with friends and family at a
memorial/celebration on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 2:00 p.m.
until the stories run out at Redlands Mesa Grange Hall located
at 27953 Redlands Mesa Road, Hotchkiss, Colorado at the
corner of 2800 Road and Redlands Mesa Road next to the
Firehouse. Please come and share a tall tale of Roger and if you have any, bring pictures of proof.
In lieu of flowers, please send a generous donation to your
local fire department.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor
Funeral Service and Crematory.
