Walter J. Roy Sr., 93, Eckert, died June 2, 2016, at his home.
Services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs.
He was a professional bowler and businessman.
Survivors include his wife, Earla Jean Bailey Roy of Eckert; three sons, W. James Jr. of Glenwood Springs, Robert of Castle Pines and David of Palisade; two stepsons, James Bailey of Showlow, Arizona, and Ken Bailey of Cedaredge; two stepdaughters, Sister Debra Bailey of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Kathy Burgess of Denver; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Walter J. Roy, Sr.
March 27, 1923 - June 2, 2016
Walter J. Roy, Sr. passed away at his home in Eckert, CO on June 2, 2016. He was 93.
Born in Lake Placid, New York, Walt came to Colorado in WWII serving with the Army’s 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale teaching skiing to the troops.
He married Afton "Bonnie" Dunsdon of Glenwood Springs in 1944. Walt and his family
owned and operated Glenwood Bowl from 1959 until 1994. He
was a competitive bowler winning numerous titles, member of
the PBA, and was inducted into the Colorado Bowling Hall of
Fame. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Bonnie passed away in May, 1991. Walt married Earla Jean
Bailey of Grand Junction in September 1991. In 1994 they
opened Walt’s Pro Shop in Grand Junction and later managed
Freeway Bowl until 2006. They retired and moved to Eckert in
2008.
Walt is survived by his wife, Jean Roy of Eckert; three sons,
Jim (Dorlene) Roy of Glenwood; Bob (Dana) Roy of Castle
Pines, and Dave (Kathi) Roy of Palisade; four step-children;
three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday June 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs.
