Hazel Viola Smith, 91, Grand Junction, died May 31, 2016, at
the Retreat at Harbor Cove.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Glen; one son, Walter C. of Grand Junction; three daughters, Barbara Dempsey and Susan Phillips, both of Casper, Wyoming, and Penny Higby of Lovelock, Nevada; three sisters, Alice Hopwood of Buhl, Idaho, and Ethel Mason and Gaylene Montano, both of Grand Junction; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Hazel Viola Smith passed away on May 31, 2016, in Grand Junction, Colorado.
She was 91.
Hazel was born on September 27, 1924, to Charles and Lila Fortik (Holland) in Sumner, Nebraska. At the age of 12 she moved to Colorado with her family. She married her husband, Walter Glen Smith, on September 26, 1946.
Hazel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-
Day Saints. She enjoyed family gatherings, her pets, Razzle
Dazzle, cooking, and spending time in her garden.
She is survived by her loving husband, Glen Smith of Grand
Junction; son, Walter C. (Lorraine) Smith of Grand Junction;
daughters, Barbara Dempsey of Casper, Wyoming; Susan
(Larry) Phillips of Casper, Wyoming, and Penny Higby of
Lovelock, Nevada; sisters, Alice Hopwood of Buhl, Idaho;
Ethel Mason and Gaylene Montano, both of Grand Junction;
eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday, June 6th at 10:30
a.m. at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens, 2970 North Ave.
Memorial contributions may be made in Hazel’s name to
HopeWest Hospice Care Center, 3090B North 12th Street,
Grand Junction, CO 81506. The family would like to give a
