Roberto Sandoval, 84, died WednesdayDaily Staff Report
Longtime Eagle County resident Roberto Sandoval died Wednesday. He was 84.Sandoval’s memorial is set for 10 a.m., Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eagle. Burial will follow at Gypsum’s Cedar Hill Cemetery. Father Jude Geilenkerchen will officiate. Visitation is Thursday at the Sandoval home in Gypsum. Sandoval was born Dec. 5, 1919 in Columbus, N.M., to Martin Sandoval and Rose Rodriguez Sandoval. He grew up in New Mexico.
He married Celestina Segovia on Oct. 22, 1958.Friends and family said he loved woodworking, was a great carpenter and made terrific brooms. But most of all, he was a loving father, husband and friend.His children said he spent time with his family, who enjoyed his company, and was involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Celestina; sons Martin Sandoval and wife Armida of Durango, Alberto Sandoval and wife Rosa of Gypsum, Ariel Sandoval of Gypsum, Sergio Sandoval and wife Clara of Gypsum, Alejandro Sandoval and wife Carol of Gypsum; daughters Maria Sanchez and husband Pedro of Gypsum, Rosa Venzor and husband Patricio of Eagle; brothers Edward and Martin Sandoval; 15 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by sisters Hortencia Romero and Delia Sandoval and brother Arthur Sandoval.The family asked that memorial donations be made to any charity.
