Edwin “Teddy” Klein Jr., 46, died Friday at his home in Eagle-Vail.

Klein was a familiar face to many because he worked behind the bar at a number of local restaurants in the eight years he was a resident of the Vail Valley.

A memorial service will be held March 5 at St. James Church, Ventnor City, N.J., and a local memorial service is scheduled for March 27 at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion.

A Ventnor City native, Klein moved to the Vail Valley in 1996.

“He was my big teddy bear and he was loved by all,” said friend Kirsten Johnson, who met Klein in 1997. “He always made me smile. It’s tragic.”

Klein loved sports from basketball to football, baseball and golf, and his many friends remember his humor and loyal friendship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Frances, and by his brother Francis Martin. He is survived by his daughter, Morgan McMonagle of Galloway, N.J.; his brothers Daniel of Ocean City, N.J., Kenneth of Vail, Anthony of New York City; and his sisters Margaret Lubic of Linwood,N.J., Kathryn Breed of Yarmouth, Maine, and Kristin Klein of New York City. He also is survived by his nieces and nephews: Joseph DiGalbo III of Mayslanding, N.J., Vincent DiGalbo of Margate, N.J., William and K.C. Breed of Yarmouth, Maine, and Christopher and Jennifer Transue of Ocean City, N.J.; and by his aunts Jane Woolford of Somerspoint, N.J., and Peggy Lovern of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
