Franklin Krichbaum, a former physician and resident of Lakewood, died Tuesday of heart disease. He was 95.Krichbaum traveled frequently to Vail to visit his son, Philip, and daughter Barbara and her husband, Kent Erickson. He was an avid cross-country skier and attended many Bravo! concerts.

He was born in St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 4 1909 and then moved to Canton, Ohio, where he lived until 1944.He graduated from Canton McKinley High School, completed his undergraduate degree at Ohio Wesleyan University in 1931 and graduated from medical school at Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1935. In 1938 he married the late Jane Smith and they were married 54 years.

He practiced general medicine in Canton until 1944, when he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific. Following the war he specialized in ophthalmology and had a practice in Akron, Ohio until 1965.In 1965 he moved to Colorado and had an office in Lakewood. He retired in 1987 but remained involved in the medical community.Krichbaum is survived by his children, Philip Krichbaum of Vail and Barbara Krichbaum Erickson and her husband, Kent Erickson, also of Vail; and sisters Mary Krichbaum and Ruth Krichbaum, both of Canton.
