Marilyn J. Klein, a long-time local, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at her home in Singletree. She moved to the Vail Valley in October of 1975 with her husband, Hunt, daughter Jennifer (Boggs), and son Levi. She was resident manager at Brooktree Condominiums for five years, then worked for Vail Associates in various capacities in food service, including catering and sales, Cook Shack and Frasier’s. She then worked for a short time at A Place on Earth, then as a sales person at Finishing Touch. Marilyn joined the interior design firm J. Powell and Associates in 1989, where she worked until 2001, when she began her own successful design firm, M K Interiors.A woman of strong faith, Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother and a treasured friend to many, many people throughout the world. She loved to entertain and was known for her “open door” policy, welcoming friends and family into her home. She had a wide variety of interests: swimming, tennis, dancing, bridge, scrapbooking, entertaining, gardening, motorcycling, Jeeping, and nature-watching.Marilyn’s husband of 35 years wrote the following words, describing the various nicknames Marilyn had acquired throughout her life.Marilyn’s life can be summed up in the names she has been given throughout her life.Marilyn: friendly, loving, compassionate, happy, confident, generous, creative, stubborn, assertive, motivated, positive, unique.Marilyn was attracted to good people and if you became her friend you had a dedicated, sharing, loving friend forever.Wild Marilyn: fun, outrageous, uninhibited, free-spirited, fearless. Many friends, especially in the early years of Vail, referred to her as Wild Marilyn.Marilyn Monroe: sexy, vivacious, flirtatious, elegant, stylish. Marilyn definitely had a sensual flair and attractive style.Mother Marilyn: She got this name because she would take in young men and women who had arrived in Vail, give them hair cuts, fix them meals and give them the attention that they were missing from home.Mom: loving, comforting, nurturing, supportive, giving and a friend. She’s not only a mother to her own children, but also to many people she took under her wing.Grammy Marilyn: you might expect she got the name on the arrival of her first grandchild, Belle Ruby Boggs; but our friend’s children called her Grammy Marilyn from the beginning because of her love and attention. She spoiled them all.Mare: The most compassionate, sensitive, caring, loving, supportive, attentive friend and partner a husband could ever wish for or have.Marilyn’s spirit will live on forever in our lives.Marilyn was a two-year survivor of breast cancer and gave back to the Shaw Cancer Center by supporting the Cancer Support Group. She provided invaluable information and loving support to other cancer patients. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Marilyn Klein Cancer Patient Care Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 870, Edwards CO, 81632. These proceeds will benefit Shaw Cancer Center patients.Marilyn will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.– The Klein and Smith families
