Eagle Valley Enterprise - March 17, 1983
Harvey Ickes, long-time "Mayor of Fulford" passed away in Valley View hospital in Glenwood Springs March 16. Ickes was born on a farm near Harlan, Iowa in 1908 and first visited the Eagle area during a hunting and fishing trip in the 1940s. He moved to the area in 1965 after retiring from business in Iowa and lived in Fulford during teh summer. He spent his winters in Eagle and Glenwood Springs. Ickes became known as the mayor of Fulford when Gerald Ford was president. During this time, some Denverites proclaimed Ford as the honorary mayor of the lower valley ghost town, but Ickes quickly set the record straight. Ickes is survived by his son Paul of Council Bluffs, IA and daughter Janet Terry of Omaha.
