David T. "Dave" Sanders
November 4, 1927 - June 30, 2016
David T. Sanders, age 88, of Montrose, Colorado took the Lord’s
hand when He called him home on June 30, 2016. Dave was
born November 4, 1927, to Grant and Lola (Taylor) Sanders in
Durango, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Durango, and
graduated from high school in Paonia, Colorado. He went on to
college at the New Mexico School of Mines. Dave served his
country in the United States Army and the United States Air
Force. He was a proud patriot.
Dave married Eleanor Thornberry on February 20, 1949, in
Hotchkiss, Colorado. This past February they enjoyed a small
gathering of family and friends who joined them in celebrating
their 67 years of marriage.
Dave worked in Hotchkiss, Uravan, Arvada, and Montrose in
Colorado as well as Casper, Wyoming and Round Mountain, Nevada.
Dave worked in the mining and metals industry.
Dave loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time
with family. He was an avid reader and student of history. A favorite
pastime was photography and he enjoyed gardening. He
and his wife took great pleasure in watching the sunsets and
wildlife together in their backyard. He was a member of
Montrose Masonic Lodge No. 63, AF&AM.
Surviving family members include his wife, Eleanor; his children,
Rebecca (William) Hubbard of Loma, Colorado; Grant
(Shirley) Sanders of Louisville, Colorado; Mardell (Bob) Sutherland
of Nucla, Colorado; Glenn (Anne) Sanders of Larkspur,
Colorado, and John Sanders of Montrose; nine grandchildren,
and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in celebration of David’s life will be held
on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Crippin Funeral Home
Chapel with Carl and Aaron Clay officiating. The memorial
service will include a Masonic service. A graveside service with
military honors will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery,
west of Montrose.
