Mrs. Holly Brooks Laid to Rest In Denver - Respected Eagle Lady Passed Away Friday after 3 Years Illness

After an illness of three years, Mrs. Holly Brooks, prominent and respected citizen of Eagle for 20 years, died in Denver May 28 and was buried there Saturday.

Olive Pauline Groh was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Groh, prominent figures in the early development of the McCoy country, at McCoy on June 23. 1893. She was united in marriage to Hollis K, Brooks on June 10, 1914, and moved five years later to Edwards, where Mr. Brooks owned the Edwards store. There they resided with two daughters until 1927 when they moved to Eagle to make their home, residing here since that time.

Mrs. Brooks was a leader in social and civic life of Eagle, and it was through her great love for flowers and her untiring efforts that the Garden club was active for so many years. She was a prominent member of the local Order of Eastern Star and as a member of the Methodist church of Eagle, served on the official board. For a number of seasons she took an active part in the county chapter of the American Red Cross.

During her three years illness she gained the admiration and respect of the community by her fortitude and courage. She was taken to Denver last week, where she died Friday evening. Private services were conducted in Olinger Mortuary Saturday by Rev. John W. Bartrug, 'former pastor at Eagle and Mrs. Brooks' was laid to rest in beautiful Fairmount cemetery there.

She leaves her husband, two daughters, Jessie Winifred Lewis of Eagle, Helen Marguerite Brown of Aurora, two brothers, Harry Groh of. McCoy and Frank Groh of Tucson, Ariz., and four grandchildren, Douglas and Diane Lewis and Hollis and Kelsey Brown. A daughter, Mary Alice, died in infancy. x
