BILL ROGERS DIED SUNDAY MORNING.
Bill ROGERS, long time resident of Eagle, died at his home here Sunday morning of a heart attack.
Mr. ROGERS was in apparent good health, and his passing came as a shock to family and friends.
William Wade ROGERS was born at Shooting Creek, Clay County, N.C.,October 12, 1879, third child of A. P. and Sarah Lou ROGERS. He joined the Methodist Church at an early age. During his youth, reading material and books were scarce and he attended Bible reading and study led by his mother, through his boyhood and early manhood.
In 1910 he was united in marriage to Sarah Hutsell DESCHANE and settled in Eagle, living here continuously since.
To this union was born one son, Philip [sic Phillip] Wayde in 1918, who with Mr. ROGERS' stepson, Clarence DESCHANE, he reared and educated in Eagle.
One of his first employers after moving to Eagle was the William MAYER family of Brush creek and he remained in the employ of the family with but short separation until two years ago.
Mr. ROGERS was known and respected by his neighbors, friends and employers for his straight forwardness and honesty, to which traits he was devoted.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Sarah C. ROGERS; his son Philip [sic Phillip] W. of Eagle; stepson, Clarence DESCHANE, Denver; four grandchildren Robin and Dwight ROGERS, Eagle; Joyce and Felix DESCHANE of Denver, with the latter on board the Franklin D. Roosevelt,serving as a radar technician with the Navy; two brothers Robert of Rifle and Lester of Bond; and three sisters, Lila PIERCE of Reno, Nevada; Lassie COLEMAN and Sally LEADFORD of Hayesville, N.C. Two brothers, Weldon of Red Cliff and John of Palisade as well as his parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services, directed by the Bowman Funeral Chapel were held from the Eagle Methodist Church Thursday afternoon, with Rev. Paul A. SHIELDS officiating.
"Dear to the Heart of God" and "The Old Rugged Cross: were sung by Chester L. MAYER, Charles A. STANLEY and William STANLEY, accompanied by Mrs. SHIELDS. Pallbearers were Alex MACDONELL, Hans LARSEN, George FIGGINS, Melvin EATON, Allen CLARK and Wm. STROWSE.
