HopeWest and Hospice Care Center.
Services will take place at a later date.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou; two sons, Kenneth of
Bayfield, and Melvin of Fruita; one daughter, Katherine Harris of
Whitewater; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Kenneth and Betty were
married on June 6, 1948 in
Grand Junction, they were
married for 68 years.
Betty was born in Alder, CO
to George Gill Stoddart and Ollie May Fulton. She graduated
from Grand Junction High School. She worked in Uravan,
milling uranium tailings, as a butcher, senior caregiver, and
helped run their farms.
Kenneth R. Thorson was born in Siebert, CO to Thalmer
Thorson and Nancy Pearl Johnson. He joined the US Army Air
Corps in 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with
distinguished medals. Together, he and Betty ran a dairy in
DeBeque, raised fruit on Orchard Mesa and homesteaded a
wheat farm in British Columbia, Canada. They enjoyed family,
friends, playing cards, hunting, fishing and the Bronco’s.
They are preceded in death by their parents; Kenneth’s
brothers, Bennie, Marvin, and Dave; Betty’s brothers, Clarence,
Harry, Earnest, and Charly; infant son, Donald Ray, and
grandson, Nels Thomas Thorson.
They are survived by their sons, Ken (Marla) Thorson of
Durango, and Melvin (Joni) of Fruita, CO; daughter, Katherine
(Mitchell) Harris of Whitewater; five grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in
Grand Junction on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.
