Russell E. Sugar, 82, of Midland, MI, passed away on December 27, 2016 at Cascades Senior Living. He was born on July 18, 1934 in Midland to the late Joseph and Leola (Gaucher) Sugar. On September 11, 1954, he married Arlene McNett who predeceased him on May 12, 2012. Russell served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a tank commander. He worked as an acoustical engineer for Austin Companies and then TriCity Acoustical as a dry wall specialist. In Russ’s younger years he played softball for Nick’s Softball Team winning several state titles. Russell was a member of Homer United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Russell is survived by his children; Maribeth (Brian) Len, Jeff Sugar, and Lisa (Dave) Smith, grandchildren; Andrea (Justin), Alexis, Alex (Leanne), Hailey (John), Christian, Mitchell and great grandchildren, Brayden and Miles. Russell was predeceased by his daughter, Susan, brothers; Dick, Don, Joe, Fred and his sister, Jo Ann Wellman. Russell’s family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and Cascades Senior Living for all their care and support. A Funeral Service was held at SmithMiner Funeral Home in MI on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Joshua Blanchard officiating. Friends visited with the family on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the funeral home from 47 pm and on Saturday from 10 am until the time of service. Burial took place at Midland Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be under the auspices of the United States Army and Midland County Veterans.
