Angela Kleiger
04/15/1921 - 01/10/2017

Passing quietly in the early hours of Tuesday January 10th, Angela Margaret DiTolla Kleiger will be missed and remembered with great love, gratitude, and affection. Angela, from the Greek “messenger of gods,” truly was an angel to so many. She was a loving mother, devoted daughter and big sister, caring aunt, and doting grandmother. She is survived by her adoring daughter, Margaret Ann Bookman and her husband Larry, of Steamboat Springs, CO, her faithful son James Herman Kleiger and his wife Nannette, of Olney, MD, four grandchildren, great grandchildren, her loving nieces and nephews, and a community of friends, whose lives were touched by her gentle kindness.

Born in Denver CO on April 15, 1921, Angela was raised by parents, Florence and James, whose roots were in central Italy. Angela grew up in North Denver, caring deeply for her younger brothers John and Jim. Graduating with a Nursing Diploma from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, Angela received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, where she deployed to the Pacific theater on the USS Comfort during World War II. After providing nursing care to soldiers and sailors in the Philippines, Angela returned to civilian life and eventually married Ralph Richard Kleiger. Together, they raised their two children; and Angela filled them with the love she brought to all of her relationships. After launching her children, she felt a renewed calling to the health care field after more than a 20-year hiatus. First volunteering to work with hearing impaired children, Angela then decided to return to a full-time nursing career where she worked at University Park Medical Clinic for the next 20 years in Denver. With her keen mind and wonderful sense of humor, she spent her retirement actively enriching the lives of her loving family and friends.

A celebration of Angela’s life will be scheduled for later in the spring in Denver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Angela’s name either to Casey’s Pond in Steamboat Springs or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
