Richard E. "Dick" Simms

Richard E. “Dick” Simms was called home June 16, 2016.
Dick was born to Richard and Othlie Simms October 12, 1934, in Rifle, Colorado. He was the eldest of 10 children. Dick called Rifle “Home”. Dick met his sweetheart, Judy, 62 years ago and had been married for 61 years.
He worked in the Uranium Mines on Polar Mesa, Utah and
Long Park, Colorado. In 1961, he joined the IBEW Union
where he became a journeyman lineman. He traveled to several areas following work. In 1971 his father and brothers started the family sawmill on West Elk Creek.
He enjoyed spending his retirement playing music and
entertaining at the senior centers, nursing homes and country
dances. Dick loved his family and his church family, he enjoyed
prospecting. He was a hardworking man. He would always
forgive and always find you. No matter where you were, or
what the trouble was, Dick Simms was on his way.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, and sisters, Sally Elmore and Stella Aldrich. He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Richard (Marcie) Palisade, CO, Dee (Twila) Cedaredge, CO, Leslie (Margaret) Silt, CO, and Andy (Kara) Branson, MO; sisters, Geri Jewell, Shirley (Ken) Hutchings, and Margie (Ron) Maynard; brothers, Earl (Rocky) and Joe (Linda) Simms; 10 grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A viewing will take place June 21, 2016, at the Rifle Funeral
Home from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. A Graveside Service will be held
at the Rose Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m.. A reception will follow at
the Veterans Park in Silt.
