Two Minturn Girls Drowned Saturday

Two Mint urn girls lost their dives when a raft overturned on a beaver pond three miles south of Minturn late Saturday afternoon. Teresita Espinosa, 13 and Dorothy Cordova 11 were dead when they were rescued from the deep pool iby picnickers, called to the scene by Steve Cordova, 13 yearold brother of Dlorothy- Steve was credited with saving the life of Teresita’s 10 year old sister, Juanita. The four youngsters had gone to the recreation park, south of Minturn earlier in the day for an afternoon's outing and had boarded the raft on the beaver pond above the park. When the homemade raft overturned, Steve managed to pull Juanita to shore ' with him, and ran for help to the park, where several Minturn and Gilman families were picnicking- The girls bodies /ere rescued from the pond, and aritifcial respiration applied. The Minturn Volunteer Fire Department was called and it’s resuscitator put into use, unsuccessfully. Juanita was taken to the GU-
man Hospital for examination, nd released that evening. Teresita is survived by her parents, Mr. 'and Mrs Frank Espinosa of Minturn; three brothers Pat and Billy of Denver and Sammy of Minturn; and nine sisters: Margaret of Red Cliff, Carrie, Tony and Stella of Denver, and Lena, Dommie, Juanita, Virginia and Maggie of Minturn. She was born in Gilman May 6, 194.1 and attended the Minturn schools- Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Minturn Wednesday morning by Fathere Joseph Leberer and burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Minturn, directed by Bowman Funeral Home of Eagle. Dorothy Cordova was bom in •New Mexico, April 19, 1943. the daughter of Mr and Mrs Steve Cordova and had made her home in Minturn for the past several years, where she attended school. She is survived by her brother, Steve, her parents and two sisters Dorothy's body was shipped from Bowman’s in Eagle today to Chamisal. N. Mex,, for burial Friday afternoon.
