Ethel Hatmaker, 92, passed away on August 2, 2016, in Phoenix
after a lengthy convalescence.
She was born Ethel Pauline Hughes in Eagle, CO, on August
26, 1923, to Flossie and George Hughes.
Ethel married Walter H. "Jack" Hatmaker on June 7, 1943, in
Glenwood Springs, CO. A Grand Junction resident from 1943
until 2013, she was a long-time income tax consultant in Grand
Junction with H&R Block and Halley’s Tax Tallies. She spent
many gratifying years at the Hilltop House working with special
needs children.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; brothers,
Ernest, Ralph, Carl, and Floyd Hughes; and sisters, Daisy Crain
and Leona Fletcher. She is survived by sons, Walter F.
Hatmaker of Phoenix, and James H. Hatmaker of Clifton; sisters,
Maxine Willingham of Centennial, CO, and Helen Dersam
of Middletown, OH; granddaughters, Dana Rower of Parker,
CO; Erin Hatmaker of Denver, CO, and Heather Hatmaker of
Phoenix, AZ; great-grandson, Taylin; great-granddaughters,
Brielle and Josephine, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and inurnment by Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
will be held Friday, September 16, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the
Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
