Oda E. Cowen, a longtime Eagle County resident, died Nov. 16 at the Glen Valley Nurinsg Home in Glenwood Springs. She was 91. Oda was born March 31, 1903 in Stillwell, OK, the daughter of Frank and Dora (McReland) Gordon. She moved to Colorado in 1919 where she lived in the Gypsum Valley. She married Paul Schultz in 1921 and together the couple ranched in Eagle County until Paul's death in 1965. She married Walter Cowen in 1972 in Silt. He preceded her in death in 1972. Oda was a member of the Gypsum Baptist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as a Chaplain of the Rebekahs and as a 4-H leader for 27 years. Oda was a hardworking individual who was very caring and loving to others. She will be greatly missed and long-remembered by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by 1 nephew, Cleaburn Gordeon and wife, Suzie of Gypsum; niece Ruth Rieder of Oceanside, CA; one great-nephew, Clebe Gordon of Gypsum and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, one son, one sister, and three brothers. Funeral services were held November 21, at 11 a.m. at the Gypsum Baptist Church. Interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Gypsum.
