Chris HICK, former Minturn merchant died in California 28 days before his 100th birthday.
Mr. HICK was born in Oselsring Holstein, Germany, Aug. 25, 1867[1868 according to Who's Who in Colorado, 1938]. He went to Leadville, Colo. as a young man and worked as a butcher, then went into the bicycle business.
In about 1905 he moved to Minturn. For a while he was a traveling salesman for Swift Packing Co. and about 1924-25 Mr. HICK, Al GOLDNER and Harry CUSTER bought the Minturn Mercantile Store from Mrs. STACEY, with Chris later acquiring sole ownership. He later sold to Ralph and Harriett MANUEL in the early '40s.
When his wife, Kitty [sic Kittie], died in Minturn he lived for a while with a niece in Denver then went to California, and was remarried there.
Mr. HICK was an active Mason and received his 50 year pin at Leadville in 1958. His health remained good throughout the years,and his death was sudden.
He is survived by his wife, Helen.
