Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 7 B Obituary - September 7, 2016

Scotty W. Amelang, age 65,
passed away peacefully on
Friday, September 2, 2016,
after a courageous battle with
lung cancer. He was born in
Grand Junction, Colorado to
Robert L. Amelang and Billy
J. Bristol.
Scotty grew up in Western
Colorado where he graduated
from Central High School in
1969. He was a United States
Air Force Vietnam Veteran
who served his country from
July 1970 until his Honorable
Discharge in April 1978.
In 1978, Scotty began his
career at the United States
Postal Service. He was a City
Letter Carrier and Mail
Handler in Grand Junction
until his retirement in 2004.
He retired with more than 33
years of Federal Service.
Scotty had a great love of the outdoors; he was an
accomplished hunter and fisherman. He shared this passion with
his children and grandchildren. Many days were spent on the
Grand Mesa and Colorado River. He was also an avid gardener
and took pleasure in involving his family in the process.
Scotty was a sports fanatic; he coached Little League Baseball
for many years, he attempted to coach Little League Softball
(that was an eye-opener), he never missed watching the Broncos
or Rockies play and he loved watching his grandchildren excel
on the track and soccer field.
He is survived by his parents, Robert L. Amelang and Billy J.
Bristol (Grand Junction, CO), son Joshua Amelang and wife
Ann (Grand Jct, CO), daughter, Onsri (Amelang) Clark and
husband Jeremy (Omaha, NE), brother Darell Amelang and
wife Pam (Estes Park, CO), sister Debbie Parko and husband
Terry (Grand Junction, CO). He is also survived by his four
grandchildren who adored him: Jordan(20), Kayli(17),
Alexis(18) and Kacey(17).
Scotty took pride in helping his grandchildren plan and attend
college. In Lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so are invited
to consider making a contribution in Scotty’s name to the
College Savings Account established for his grandchildren at
SAC Federal Credit Union, 15325 Weir St., Omaha, NE 68137.
Our Family would like to extend their thanks for the fantastic
support Scotty received from the staff of Hospice House The
Josie Harper Residence in Omaha, Nebraska, his care provider
prior to his passing, and to his many Friends through the years
in Grand Junction.
A Celebration of life to Honor Scotty will be held during the
Summer of 2017. Location to be determined.
Scotty (Dad) will be greatly missed.
