Boris A. Del Monte, an Eagle resident for the past two years, died at Vail Valley Medical Center Thursday after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 88.

Del Monte was born on Aug. 24, 1918, in Framingham, Mass., and spent his early childhood in Barre, Vt. He graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and then enlisted in the US Army during World War II, where he served as an intelligence officer .

After the war, he returned to Westinghouse Electric International in New York City, where he worked as an executive in various capacities. He later worked for Home Life Insurance company in New York City.

After retiring, he lived in Plainfield, Vt., for 21 years and served on the town’s select board as member and chairman.

In 2005, health issues compelled him and his wife, Carmela, to whom he was married for 60 years, to move to Colorado to be near their daughter, Melanna Marcellot in Edwards.

Del Monte was an avid gardener and wood worker, family members said.

Del Monte is survived by his wife, Carmela; daughter Melanna Marcellot of Edwards; son Gerard Del Monte of Mount Vernon, Wash.; grandchildren Adam Marcellot of Denver and Julia Serva-Del Monte of Puyallup Wash.; brother Frank Del Monte of Virginia; sister Gloria McNulty of Washington D.C.; and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shaw Cancer Center and Mountain Home Health and Hospice, both in Edwards.
