Douglas E. Gray
September 8, 1938 - September 28, 2016
Doug Gray, 78, was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer, a hunter and fisherman who deeply appreciated and was respectful of nature and life.
He enjoyed running 10Ks with friends and family and the occasional marathon – by himself.
He was a masterful, life-long
bowman who delighted in
sharing his wisdom and love of the art with those around him. In addition, he was a member of the Colorado Traditional Archers Society and a dedicated fellow among the Grand Mesa Bowmen, where good friends were found through the flight of an arrow.
Doug and his family were proud of his service in U.S. Army
as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne, 1956-62.
A storyteller and entrepreneur, Doug was always looking for
new feats and activities to try, whether taxidermy, fly tying,
tennis, learning to play the banjo or raising turkeys.
Yet, Doug’s greatest joy and passion were his family. He is
survived by his beautiful wife of 57 years, Judy; children, Cindy
Mahan (Michael), Cathy Beuten (Darrell) and Dan Gray
(Carol); grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam, Stefanie, Jessica, Holly, Lisa, Taylor, Lily, Darian, Kelli and Dante; 13 greatgrandchildren, and brother, George “Dee” Gray.
He passed at home, surrounded by his family, in his favorite
chair. And although our grief is great, we know that he is free –
and our hearts soar like a hawk.
An open house celebrating his life will be 12-2:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 13, at Callahan-Edfast, 2515 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Contributions in his honor may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation or HopeWest.
