May 14, 1939 - August 17, 2016
Don M. Young, age 77, passed away on August 17, 2016, in Littleton, CO during recovery following hip surgery. Born on May 14, 1939, to parents, Bennett and Cora Young, Don grew up in Palisade, Colorado. He enlisted in 1958, and served for 22 years in the US Air Force, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He went on to work as a Safety Engineer for Martin Marietta for another 20 years. He retired at age 65 after achieving success supporting NASA’s efforts to return the Space Shuttle program back to flight after the Columbia disaster. Don is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lolita Young; his daughter, Jonna Crutchfield; his son, Don Young (Christine); his brother, Bennett Young, and his five grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexander Crutchfield, and Austin, Dylan and Kaylie Young. A funeral service for Don was held on August 21, 2016, at Horan & McConaty in Lakewood, CO. Interment took place the following morning at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, with full military honors. The family thanks friends and relatives for their support and condolences.
