Robert R. Frost
June 14, 1940 - July 18, 2016
Robert Rex Frost, age 76,
died July 18, after a short stay
at HopeWest Hospice Center
following several years of
declining health.
He was born in Rochester,
Minnesota, the oldest of three
sons to Rex and Ella (Krahn)
Frost. The family moved to
Fairmont, Minnesota, where
Robert began his schooling.
After graduation from high school, he attended Mankato State
College for a B. Sc. degree, and then Iowa State University for a
Ph. D. in physical chemistry.
Robert worked for a year for Conoco (Agricultural Division)
in Ponca City, Oklahoma. In 1969, he joined the staff of the
Illinois State Geological Survey in Champaign, Illinois.
He was active in bowling, golf, and duplicate bridge (Bronze
Life Master).
On January 1, 1972, he married Joyce Kennedy, a fellow
chemist at ISGS. They soon started travelling - Alaska,
windjammer cruises in the Caribbean, Galapogos Islands,
Kenya, etc. Several summer vacations were to the western states
and, after taking early retirement from ISGS, they moved in
1997 to Grand Junction. They continued travelling to foreign
countries (Venezuela, Madagascar, Finland, India, etc.) and, at
home, explored Colorado and surrounding states in the RV.
Robert eagerly took up a new hobby, rock-hounding trips and
collecting rocks and minerals, whereupon he filled the house,
the garage, a shed, and the yard.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and youngest
brother, Lyle. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Grand
Junction; brother, Jack H. Frost (Suzanne) of Wescosville,
Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, JoAnn Frost of Blaine, Minnesota,
and 14 nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place by Brown’s Cremation Service,
Grand Junction. The ashes will be scattered at Rochester,
Minnesota.
